When you look for a new car what factors do you think are most important, looks, price, running costs or fuel efficiency?
Well, over the past few months it seems as though more and more people are looking for fuel efficient cars that offer them lower running costs. This is evident through the amount of Peugeot 107s and Citroen C1s that are currently on the roads - cars that are renowned for offering great value for money when it comes to fuel.
These cars in particular have been billed as city cars - mainly because of their size. However, people who have to commute to work on a daily basis will also welcome any fuel price reductions.
At time when gas prices are increasingly on the up it is not that surprising that people are looking to these cars.
I recently heard a lot of buzz around the Vauxhall Insignia EcoFlex - basically it's an environmentally-friendly version of the Insignia CTDi. Changes have been made to further reduce CO2 emissions and cut fuel costs.
The under-car panelling has been adapted to improve aerodynamics and therefore increase fuel-efficiency. The Insignia EcoFlex has also been finished off with Michelin rolling resistance tyres and the gears have been modified to keep revs down and MPG up. All of these slight modifications have been made to ensure that motorists get more out of their car's fuel.
Another advantage to buying a green car is that you will pay a lower road tax rate. The UK government has now arranged the system so that cars that emit lower levels of CO2 qualify for a lower tax rate. This scheme is yet another incentive for motorists to look down the green route. Not only do fuel-efficient cars qualify for a lower rate, but cars that emit high levels of CO2 qualify for a much higher rate.
For example a car that falls into Tax Band B can cost as little as 35 pounds to tax for one year, whereas one that falls into Tax Band K will cost you a colossal 405 pounds to tax for 12 months. It is definitely worth checking out which band a car fits into before you make a purchase.
So, if you opt for a 'green' car, not only will you save money yourself - in terms of fuel and road tax, but you will also do your but to combat global warming because fuel efficient cars emit lower levels of C02. |
